Hanging on by their fingertips, the Phillies open a three game series against the Florida Marlins.
Here is a joke-test for you: If Friday night is Latino Family Night at the ball park and Saturday's game is Irish Heritage Day, what is Sunday's game?
Go ahead and fill in your answer in the comment section.
Cole Hammels got himself in a little hot water with his comments about coming off the DL to pitch only if the Phillies are in contention. All I have to say is this: I have three children all around his age and sometimes they speak before they think. Don't we all?
We'll be at Saturday's game with brother and sister-in-law, then maybe home in time to see the second half of the Penn State-Notre Dame game, which starts at 6. That is, unless we go to Medora's Mecca or Benny the Bum's after the game and watch Penn State while we eat our crab fries.
Tonight it's the right hander J.D. Durbin, who failed to register an out in his last outing (Marlins). Hopefully he'll register some tonight. He's opposed by the right hander Byung-Hyun Kim in a battle of ERAs. Durbin 6.27, Kim 5.54. And who said expansion made the game better?![]()
The Golden Boys from North Broad Street take on the University at Buffalo (it's at Buffalo not of Buffalo), a SUNY school (State University of New York). Temple's contest with the Bulls might define its season. Out of 119 NCAAF teams Sports Illustrated ranked, Temple is at 114 and Buffalo at 118. If the Owls can't beat Buffalo, they could be in for a looooooong season. Last week Rutgers beat Buffalo 38-3. Let's see, where is Appalachian State ranked? If you can't find the Mountaineers in SI's top 119, it's because they are I-AA. So much for rankings (in case you've been hibernating, I-AA Appalachian State upset number 5 ranked Michigan last week, 34-32, at the Big House). Penn State is pretty confident about the Irish coming into another big house tomorrow, Beaver Stadium. Last week Georgia Tech embarrassed Notre Dame, 33-3. Penn State destroyed Florida International (ranked 119 by SI), which makes the Lion's AD that much smarter than Michigan's AD. Anyway, you figure this game is a gimmie for Penn State? You might want to think again. Charlie Weiss is going with his kid-quarterback, Jimmy Clausen, and he made his team walk next to the bus from South Bend to State College. I've been there at times when the 107,000 faithful in Happy Valley (it was actually a mere 96,000 when I was there) thought the game was in the bag before the coin toss. Le'ts hope this isn't one of them. But Dan Connor and the Nittany Lion defense may make Saturday's game one to forget for Clausen. In BlueWhite Illustrated, Conner, number forty, says the Irish will come into Beaver stadium hungry, and football fans saw what happened last week in Michigan when a team comes in hungry. Meanwhile undefeated Mechanicsburg High School takes on Spring Grove tonight at 7:30, at Spring Grove. But Mechanicsburg will have its hands full. Last week the Spring Grove Rockets defeated Governor Mifflin, 41-zip. Maybe Coach Costello made the defense walk along next to the bus from Mechanicsburg to Spring Grove. We'll see. Tomorrow, a look at the Birds.

Great topic. I really like reading your blog as the content is so easy to read and follow. You'll have to follow-up.
