I don't care if the Phillies score every single run in a given game on walks with the bases loaded or batters getting hit by pitches with the bases loaded or errors or acts of God, as long as it puts a mark in the win column.

At this point in my life as a Phillies fan, individual stats are relatively meaningless.  Ryan Howard won the Rookie of the Year two years ago - no playoffs, then he had an even better year and took the MVP last season - no playoffs.  All star appearances and individual awards are nice for individual players, but it's high time the Phillies got together and did something as a team.

The Phils won their second game of the season last night, big freakin' deal right?  Well when you take a little bit of a closer look it is a pretty big deal, I'll tell you why:

First of all, it was the Phillies number five starter that got the win, the guy that got absolutely shelled in his first start, the guy who gave up eight runs in one inning in his Phillies debut.  The worst pitcher in the Phils rotation capably handled a very potent Met line-up, only giving up two runs on four hits.

Sure there was still the problem of leaving 14 men on base and the Mets didn't exactly play up to their potential but Eaton was solid and the team did the things they needed to win.  They moved runners into scoring position, worked walks, scored on a sac fly, got hits and knocked in runs with two outs.  All that equals a very important "W" in a situation where they desperately needed one.

So it wasn't as pretty as it could have been, but the team knows that and they also know that if they can beat the Mets like that, they can hold their own with anyone if they go out and play ball like they are capable.

At this point in the season, with the types of losses the Phils have been suffering and sitting in last place with a dismal 1-6 record, I'll take a win any way I can get it, especially against the Mets.
